Frisco ISD is taking a fresh run at a school bond - and this time, the district is building it from the ground up with community input.

A bond planning committee of about 100 stakeholders - parents, students, residents, business leaders, and board-appointed representatives - is being formed now. Applications closed Sept. 25, and the committee begins work in late October. Their job: study the district's needs and help shape a potential May 2027 bond package.

The approach is deliberately different from the $1.08 billion bond that voters rejected in November 2024. That package tried to cover everything at once - campus refreshes, a new Staley Middle School, technology, a tennis center. Superintendent Todd Fouche has said this time the focus will be "needs-based," zeroing in on what buildings actually need right now: HVAC, roofing, and mechanical repairs.

Here's the context: the 2018 bond ($691 million) is expected to run out in 2027. After the 2024 rejection, the district stretched remaining funds by reprioritizing projects and reducing 171 teaching positions through attrition. Staley Middle School is being retired, and the district has launched Access Frisco and Frisco Flex to offset declining enrollment.

No dollar figure has been announced yet. That's what the committee will help determine.

✈️ McKinney Airport (DTX) Opens Nov 11 With 4 More Destinations. The new commercial terminal has Avelo Airlines launching nonstop service to five destinations (Fort Myers, Las Vegas, Orlando, Tampa and Fort Lauderdale / Miami) and adding four new routes in December: Atlanta, Denver, Nashville, and New Orleans. That brings DTX to 9 nonstop destinations within its first 2 months.

🍺 Frisco Oktoberfest is next Saturday, Oct. 3. The annual celebration is back. If you want to experience Oktoberfest right now this weekend, pop over to McKinney.

🏗️ Grand Park Phase 1 broke ground. It will ultimately span 1,000 acres, making it Frisco's largest park by far.

🪱 Mosquito count hits 13. One new positive pool confirmed this week. Spray trucks are out tonight (Saturday) 9PM-5AM and again Sunday night 9PM-5AM in Fairfield Estates, Lakes of Preston Vineyards, Parkside Estates, Plantation Estates, Preston Lakes, Preston Vineyards North, Shepherds Hill, and Stonebryck Manor. No human cases in 2026.
