Howdy Frisco -

Many of Dallas' best restaurants are opening Frisco locations, a Japanese sushi bar opens at The Star next Monday, Cowboys training camp is back next week, a midget wrestling event, and there's a park with a hidden waterfall most of you have probably driven past without noticing.

Here's your weekend.

If you're new to Frisco, here's something that would have been unthinkable five years ago: eight of Dallas' most popular restaurants are all opening Frisco locations at roughly the same time. Not chains - chef-driven, design-forward concepts that used to require a drive into the city.

The lineup includes Commissary and Tango Room at HALL Park (fall 2026), Muchacho Tex-Mex on Gaylord Parkway (fall 2026), Musume at The Star (opening next Monday, Aug. 25), The Imperial Room cocktail lounge at The Star (early September), plus Culinary Dropout (American, live music), Mexican Sugar (fresh Mexican comfort food), and Sixty Vines (a wine bar) all in various stages of buildout. Together with Hudson House (comfort food), which opened earlier this year, it's the single biggest wave of Dallas restaurant migration Frisco has ever seen.

What's driving it isn't just population growth - it's that the commercial density in HALL Park, The Star, and the Fields corridor has finally crossed the threshold where high-end restaurant groups see enough foot traffic to justify a permanent presence. For residents, the practical upside is that the 30-minute drive to Deep Ellum or the Design District for a serious dinner is increasingly optional.

The Dallas-based Japanese restaurant is opening its third location at The Star next Monday. A 6,000-square-foot space with indoor and outdoor seating, two bars, a private Tatami room, and a 20-seat sushi bar. The design blends Texas and Japanese elements with custom sake displays, zen lighting, and moss installations.

A new-concept cocktail lounge from Jay Jerrier's PILF Restaurant Group (the people behind Cane Rosso), taking over the former Cow Tipping Creamery space at The Star. Only 25-30 seats, intentionally intimate, with craft cocktails in a district built for game-day crowds.

💰 First budget hearing happened Tuesday. Council held the first public hearing on the proposed $325.3 million budget and 3.71% tax rate increase - Frisco's first hike since 2017, adding roughly $9/month for the average homeowner. Second hearing is Sept. 1, final vote Sept. 15.

👔 New HR Director hired. Thomas Bledsoe joined the city this week as Director of Human Resources, tasked with leading recruitment and employee development as Frisco's workforce scales with the population.

🏈 Cowboys Training Camp is next week. The Dallas Cowboys are hosting two free public practices at Ford Center at The Star on Tuesday, Aug. 25 and Wednesday, Aug. 26. Tostitos Championship Plaza opens at 4PM, Ford Center at 4:30PM, opening ceremony at 5:30PM on Tuesday with Jerry Jones, the Cheerleaders, and a post-practice drone show. This week's pick is one most people have driven past without noticing: a quiet, creek-side park with the Taychas Trail winding through wildflowers and native grasses, mosaic artwork along the path, and a hidden waterfall accessible via a dirt footpath behind the playground. It's one of the more serene spots in Frisco, and a good change of pace from the bigger community parks.
