Howdy Frisco -

Happy 7/11 y'all. Yes, that means free Slurpees today, and yes, I will absolutely be dragging both toddlers into 7-Eleven for one before it turns into a full meltdown over whether they get blue or red.

7-Eleven is turning 60 this year and celebrating the way any of us would want to be celebrated: free small Slurpees, all day, no purchase necessary. My four year old already has opinions about flavor mixing. Pray for me.

Okay, onto the actual news.

🎭 A brand new theater academy is coming to Frisco this fall

The Young Actors Theater Academy is opening a nearly 10,000 square foot facility at 11101 Preston Road, complete with a main stage theater, a black box theater, rehearsal studios and classrooms. Founder Caydi Zerega says the goal is to build "confidence, creativity, collaboration, and character through the performing arts."

They'll offer acting, singing and dance classes, after school programs, and even homeschool daytime programming through their Conservatory track, which caught my eye given Emily's plans for our oldest. Auditions for their first round of musicals start in August.

My daughters currently perform full concerts in our living room for an audience of exactly one very tired dad, so I have a feeling this place is going to become a regular stop for us.

🏠 Frisco rent buys you less space than you'd think, compared to our neighbors

A new Rent Cafe ranking looked at how much apartment space $1,500 a month gets you across North Texas, and Frisco landed at 798 square feet, actually just under Dallas proper's 806 square feet. Mesquite topped the local list at 988 square feet, with Arlington, Garland, McKinney and Irving all beating Frisco too.

I drive past Firefly Park's construction site near Legacy West almost every day on my commute, and it's wild to watch it climb. That development alone is bringing 420 residential units, including an 18-story luxury tower. Between that and new projects in Plano and The Colony, the math on rent versus space around here is probably going to keep shifting.

🎡 Six Flags Over Texas finally opens its record breaking coaster

The Tormenta Rampaging Run officially opened July 9 after getting pushed back a couple weeks for testing. It's now the tallest, fastest and longest "dive coaster" in the world, 309 feet up, an 87 mph, 285 foot drop, and over 4,000 feet of track.

I will not be riding this. I will be standing at the bottom holding a diaper bag and a stroller, cheering on whoever in our family eventually has the nerve. Give it a decade or so and I suspect I'll be dragged onto it by my own kids instead of the other way around.
