Howdy Frisco -
Someone in Frisco just scratched a $50 lottery ticket at the Tom Thumb on Preston Road and walked away with $2 million. They asked to remain anonymous, which, honestly, same. I'd also go quiet if I turned a gas station pit stop into seven figures.
After taxes they're taking home about $1.26 million (shoutout Texas for having zero state income tax), and this is apparently the second time in six months a Frisco resident has hit a major scratch-off jackpot.
Meanwhile, I'm over here trying to decide if the $3 car wash is worth it.
Let's get into it. ⬇️
🗳️ Frisco City Council Recount: Case Closed
You may remember the Place 1 special election from January… Ann Anderson beat Mark Piland by 110 votes. Piland requested a recount last week, and the city wrapped it up this past Sunday.
Result: zero discrepancies. Anderson's win stands.
She'll be sworn in March 3, and the seat - which opened up when John Keating stepped down to run for mayor - will officially be filled. Frisco democracy: slow sometimes, but it works.
Honestly, 110 votes is razor thin. If you've ever thought your vote doesn't matter in local elections... this is your sign.
🏊 FISD Swimmers Had an Absolutely Incredible Weekend
I'll be honest - I didn't know much about the Frisco ISD swim programs before moving here. Now that my girls are in swimming lessons (and absolutely terrified of putting their faces in the water), I'm paying a lot more attention.
This past Saturday at the UIL 5A State Championships in Austin, three FISD teams finished on the medal stand:
🥈 Reedy girls - 2nd place (4th straight year on the podium)
🥉 Centennial girls - 3rd place (first time ever!)
🥉 Wakeland boys - 3rd place (7th time in the last 8 years)
The highlight? Centennial's girls 200 freestyle relay team won gold - Mackenzie Corbin, Veronica Shofran, Dylan Volk, and Shanzay Tufail, by one hundredth of a second. One hundredth. I spill my breakfast by wider margins every morning on 121.
FISD had 34 swimmers and divers qualify for finals across all events. That's not a fluke; that's a program.
This matters to me because my daughters will be in FISD someday. Watching what these kids accomplish makes that feel pretty good.
🎳 TOCA Social Opens Next Week (And It's Right Down the Road)
Soccer + food + games + Grandscape = Emily is already asking when we're going.
TOCA Social, a European soccer-themed "eatertainment" concept, opens its first American location on March 6 at Grandscape, about 10 minutes from us Frisco neighbors. They've got 20 semi-private "playing boxes" where you compete in interactive soccer games on digital screens, eat internationally-inspired food, and drink. They describe it like bowling, but with a soccer ball.
They specifically chose Texas as their U.S. launch market because of the 2026 FIFA World Cup games coming to AT&T Stadium in Arlington this summer. Smart move.
I'm already picturing bringing the girls here (assuming the 2-year-old doesn't try to eat the soccer ball). The menu has sliders, wings, and tapas, which honestly sounds like my ideal Saturday.
Opening March 6 | 5652 Grandscape Blvd., The Colony | toca.social/us
