Howdy Frisco -

Stonebriar Centre's new Saturday curfew for unaccompanied minors is back this weekend after mall officials called the first week a success. Starting at 3 p.m., anyone under 18 needs an adult 21+ by their side. One adult can cover up to four minors. Mall safety officers are posted at entrances checking IDs.

As someone who occasionally drags two toddlers through Stonebriar against my better judgment, I'm mostly just relieved they're not carding the four-year-olds yet.

Now, let’s get into it. ⬇️

🎆 Darius Rucker Is Coming to PGA Frisco for the 4th of July

Fireworks on the Fairway is back at Omni PGA Frisco Resort on July 4 (6-10 p.m.), and this year they locked in Darius Rucker as the headliner.

His set will pull from solo hits like "Wagon Wheel" and "Alright," plus the Hootie classics everyone secretly loves. The concert flows directly into a synchronized fireworks and drone show over the fairways.

The details:

  • General tickets start at $20 for kids, $50 for adults via Eventbrite

  • Resort packages available at omnihotels.com, ranging from family stays to VIP options with resort credit

  • Carnival games, face painting, themed food and drinks throughout the evening

This one's already on our family calendar. My girls are still a little young to care about Hootie & the Blowfish, but they will absolutely lose their minds over drones. If you've been looking for a 4th of July plan that doesn't involve fighting traffic on 380, this feels like the move.

🗳️ Frisco's Next Mayor: Here's Who's on the Ballot

Mayor Jeff Cheney has hit his term limit after leading the city since 2017, which means Frisco is getting a new face at the top. Two candidates came out ahead in the May 2 election and are now headed to a runoff.

Election Day: June 13 Early Voting: June 1-9

  • Rod Vilhauer (Consultant) says his top priorities are taxes, traffic, infrastructure, and public safety. He wants to lean on AI data to improve traffic efficiency and work with the EDC to attract more Fortune 500 businesses.

  • Mark Hill (23-year business attorney, former Frisco ISD Trustee and board president, Frisco EDC director) says his three pillars are safety, economic opportunity, and unity. He emphasizes financial discipline, collaborative leadership, and notes he's the only candidate currently raising a young family and running a business in Frisco.

Both candidates are talking about taxes and growth management, which tracks with what I hear from neighbors constantly.

Worth 10 minutes of your Saturday to check out their full responses at Community Impact and make a plan to vote before June 13.

🏫 FISD Budget Update: 2% Raises, Declining Enrollment, and a Balancing Act

Here's where things stand for the 2026-27 fiscal year:

  • The headline: FISD is projecting a balanced budget despite operating revenue dropping from roughly $771.7M to $752M, largely due to declining enrollment.

  • Teacher raises: Trustees are leaning toward a 2% raise while funding 40% of vacant positions (Option B of three presented). Starting teacher pay is expected to hit $64,000, and the district is promising that any teacher whose 2% raise doesn't bring them to that floor will be bumped up automatically.

  • The enrollment piece is worth watching. The district launched an "Access Frisco" transfer program for K-7 students from other districts, which has pulled in 870 students and about $8.4M in revenue. That's a creative way to offset losses, but it also signals a real shift from the explosive growth years.

  • TIRZ funding (a mechanism that redirects property tax increment revenue) is now being used to boost operations, which is helping per-student revenue look competitive. Without it, FISD would actually fall below comparable districts.

The board votes on the final budget in June. Nothing alarming here, but the enrollment decline trend is one I'll be watching as a future FISD parent.

🍔🍣 Quick Bites (New Restaurants Alert)

Three openings worth knowing about:

  • Kame Sushi - Already open as of May 8 at 5251 Panther Creek Parkway. Sushi, nigiri, sashimi, hibachi, sake and Japanese whisky. Their "Trust Me" menu with soup and salad is getting attention. Emily and I have a date night with this place's name on it.

  • True Texas Burgers - Opening May 28 at 5001 Panther Creek Parkway. Burgers, melts, and shakes. The name alone earned a spot on my lunch rotation.

  • Robo Shawarma - Opening May 19 at 7875 Custer Road. Fast-casual shawarma wraps and plates. The name is doing a lot of heavy lifting and I respect it.

Panther Creek Parkway is quietly becoming a real dining destination. File that under "Frisco things I didn't expect.

🏡 The Frisco Market Is Splitting in Two. Which Side Are You On?

Here's what the latest numbers actually show:

The median Frisco home is sitting on the market for 54 days. Nearly 1 in 3 homes has already had a price cut. And 78% are closing below asking price.

But the best-priced, best-marketed homes? Pending in 23 days. Around list price. No drama.

Same city. Wildly different outcomes. The gap is the agent.

With 956 homes currently for sale in Frisco and buyers getting pickier, this is not the market to list with someone learning on the job. You need a specialist who knows your neighborhood, your price range, and what's actually moving right now.

That's exactly what my wife, Emily, built her AI Agent Matching System to find.
