🤠 HOWDY FRISCO

Thursday, August 27th, 2026

Howdy Frisco -

The CDC (Community Development Corporation) just voted to move the city's hazardous waste drop-off out of downtown, the US Open Pool Championship finals are this weekend at Rollertown, a belly flop competition is held in Frisco, and there's a park most people don't know has a splash pad right next to an off-leash dog park.

Here's your weekend plans.

🏛️ CDC Votes To Take Out Town’s Toxic Trash

If you've ever dropped off old paint, batteries, or chemicals at the Environmental Collection Center downtown, heads up: it's moving. The Frisco Community Development Corporation voted unanimously on Aug. 20 to begin the process of relocating it from the current downtown site to a 10.3-acre parcel in the Luminant development, clearing prime Rail District land for future use.

The board also approved a silo projection system at the Frisco Discovery Center, which will let the city project visuals and art onto the building's exterior silo, turning it into a public canvas visible from the Rail District. Community member Rick Kauten, representing the Frisco Old Town Community, spoke in support and asked the board to establish guidelines for how the system gets used and how the community can get involved.

Other CDC actions: a classroom addition at the Discovery Center was approved, and the Rail District Reinvestment Grant Program's policy was updated to support more downtown businesses. The board also deliberated on six separate real property parcels in closed session, signaling more land deals in the pipeline across north and central Frisco.

🌳 Park of the Week: B.F. Phillips Community Park

This week's pick is a two-for-one: a splash pad for the kids and an off-leash dog park right next door. B.F. Phillips has a playground, basketball courts, a covered pavilion, walking trails, and open green space, but what makes it stand out is that you can tire out both your kids and your dog in the same trip. The splash pad runs through early September.

B.F. Phillips Community Park, 2501 W. Stonebrook Pkwy, Frisco | Free | Open daily, dawn to dusk
