Howdy Frisco -

Two years of orange cones downtown are about to pay off. Fourth Street Plaza, the last piece of Frisco's Rail District overhaul, is on track to open by the end of this month, and once it does, I expect it to become the new default answer to "where should we go downtown."

Let's get into it.

If you're new to Frisco, here's a fact that surprises a lot of people: downtown Frisco, called the Rail District, has been under construction for two straight years as part of an $80 million-plus redevelopment.

The city rebuilt Main Street, added wide sidewalks and rail-themed street design, and opened a five-level, 450-space free parking garage back in June.

The last piece, Fourth Street Plaza, is expected to finish by the end of this month. It's a new outdoor gathering space connecting Elm and Main Streets, with train-track-style shade structures, green space built for concerts, and gateway monuments marking the entrance to downtown.

Once it opens, expect it to become the go-to spot for outdoor events, food truck nights, and live music downtown. There's also a free shuttle already running through the district, the Rail District Boxcar, Friday through Sunday, with 13 stops between World Cup Way and North County Road.

🏗️ City Hall's two-year renovation is finally done. The George A. Purefoy Municipal Center, Frisco's main city hall on Frisco Square Blvd, just wrapped a $17 million, 148,000-square-foot renovation that's been underway since 2024.

🚐 Rideshare is free through Labor Day. GoZone, Frisco's on-demand shared-ride van service, normally costs $3 to $5 a trip, but every ride is free through September 4. It runs weekdays 6AM-6PM and covers roughly a third of the city, booked through the GoZone app.

🦟 Sixth mosquito pool tests positive. A trap tested positive for West Nile virus this week, the sixth in Frisco this year. The city sprays overnight Saturday and Sunday in Plantation Resort, Plantation Springs, and Hillcrest Estates. No human cases reported. Standard advice applies: wear long sleeves at dawn and dusk, apply repellent, remove standing water.
