Howdy Frisco -
Pita Mediterranean quietly opened Valentine's Day at 8333 Preston Road and I feel personally offended that it took me this long to find out.
Emily's already planning a lunch. The girls will probably just eat the pita bread and call it a day. Honestly, same.
Let’s get into it. ⬇️
🐢 Turtle Races Are Coming to Frisco (No, Really)
Little Woodrow's, the Houston sports bar legend known for its massive patios and, yes, actual live turtle racing, is opening at 8320 State Hwy 121 near Stonebriar this spring.
Construction is already moving fast next to iFly, and this will be their 24th Texas location and only the second in North Texas.
Here's what's coming:
Massive outdoor patio built for game days
Wall-to-wall TVs, craft beer, wings, burgers
And the main event: turtle racing: 18+ seasons strong, now headed to Collin County
Look, I'm a finance guy by day, not a gambler. But I will absolutely be placing emotional bets on a turtle named "Compound Interest." Emily has already been informed.
🏀 Frisco ISD Is Having a WEEK in Basketball
Let's talk about what's happening on the hardwood, because it's a lot.
Girls: Memorial pulled off a 58-57 thriller over Wakeland Friday night to win the 5A Division II Region 2 title. Presley Powell hit the go-ahead layup with 10 seconds left. My heart couldn't have handled being in that gym.
Memorial (28-9) heads to the state semifinals TODAY at 6 p.m. at Flower Mound High School vs. Argyle (32-5). Tickets are through the Lewisville ISD ticketing site.
Boys: Three FISD teams are still dancing: Heritage, Memorial and Reedy all play tonight in regional semis:
Reedy vs. West Mesquite - 7 p.m. at Richardson Pearce HS
Memorial vs. Waco University - 7 p.m. at Ennis HS
Heritage vs. Red Oak - 7:30 p.m. at Carrollton RL Turner HS
If Heritage and Reedy both win, they play each other in the regional final. A pure Frisco ISD showdown.
🏒 Is Plano Trying to Steal the Dallas Stars?
Big news out of Collin County: Plano has formally pitched the Dallas Stars on relocating before their lease at American Airlines Center expires in 2031, according to Dallas City Council Member Chad West in an interview with CBS News Texas.
Plano sent a letter of intent to the franchise. The Stars haven't signed it. The team declined to comment.
Dallas is pushing back hard; West says they're even exploring converting American Airlines Center into a hockey-specific arena to keep the Stars downtown.
Meanwhile, Arlington is apparently lurking too.
The Stars have "Dallas" in their name for a reason, but let's be honest, a shiny new arena 20 minutes from us in Frisco would not exactly make me sad. Just saying.
No decisions have been made. This one will be worth watching all year.
