Howdy Frisco -
Frisco keeps proving it's not a suburb… it's a whole thing. Between a new Thai spot I've already bookmarked, a movie being filmed with Samuel L. Jackson literally called Frisco King, and a major park breaking ground, this week had a lot going on.
I also tried to explain shawarma to my 3-year-old. That went about as well as you'd expect.
Now, let’s get into it. ⬇️
🌿 Grand Park Just Got Real - $43M and Counting
Frisco City Council approved a $43.39 million contract with Crossland Construction to kick off the first phase of Grand Park. The groundbreaking is tentatively set for April 13 (weather dependent… it's Texas, so).
The first phase, called Civic Park, covers about 68 acres along the Dallas North Tollway and will include an amphitheater, a pond big enough for kayaking, and walking trails. Full buildout of the 1,011-acre park includes adventure play areas, a botanic garden, sports facilities, and community gathering spaces.
Construction is expected to wrap in late summer or early fall 2026. Funding comes from previously approved bond money.
As someone with two toddlers who I basically have to bribe to leave any park we visit, I'm very ready for this. Also: a pond big enough for kayaking in Frisco. That's not something I had on my 2023 "reasons to move here" list, but I'll take it.
(Quick context: the project had been delayed due to environmental contamination at the old Exide battery recycling site nearby. Council already approved $62M+ for cleanup. They're moving now.)
🎬 Samuel L. Jackson Is Filming a Show Called "Frisco King." No, Really.
Taylor Sheridan's Tulsa King spinoff is officially a North Texas production and they need extras.
"Frisco King" stars Samuel L. Jackson as a hitman named Russell Lee Washington Jr. and is currently filming across the DFW area through the end of April. The show was originally supposed to be set in New Orleans but was retitled and relocated to North Texas.
Upcoming extra opportunities (via Legacy Casting):
April 14 - Female cheerleaders (18+) washing cars. Southlake. $350/12 hours.
April 20 - Baseball game attendees. Keller. $110/10 hours.
April 21 - Gas station pedestrians. Southlake. $110/10 hours.
April 23 - Warehouse background. Fort Worth. $110/10 hours.
April 24 - Sheriff's deputy for holding cell scene. Fort Worth. $200/12 hours.
Sheridan is writing every episode himself. No release date yet, but it's Paramount+.
I will not be auditioning. I have a newborn and a 9-to-5 in Legacy West and I do not have the bandwidth. But if you've ever wanted to be in the background of something Samuel L. Jackson is in, now's your shot.
🎓 Collin College Career Fair - 100 Employers, Free to Attend
Collin College is hosting its annual countywide career fair on April 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Frisco Campus (9700 Wade Blvd). Nearly 100 employers across finance, engineering, healthcare, public safety, and more will be there with actual hiring managers - not just recruiters collecting resumes into a void.
The event is free. Bring your resume. Dress professionally.
Full employer list and registration at collin.edu/studentresources/career/careerfair.
As someone who has spent more time than I'd like to admit recently refreshing LinkedIn, I can tell you: face-to-face beats cold applications. If you or someone you know is job hunting in Collin County, this is worth the Wednesday morning.
🏘️ Frisco Mayoral Race Is Getting Spicy
May 2 is barreling toward us, and the fight to replace term-limited Mayor Jeff Cheney is turning up the heat.
Four candidates on the ballot: John Keating, Shona Sowell, Mark Hill, and Rod Vilhauer.
The drama? Keating landed a fat $100,000 check from one donor tied to a Frisco-area billboard/digital advertising guy. (Perfectly legal in Texas, but yeah… people are side-eyeing it.) No one else got close on single-source money.
Vilhauer stirred the pot hard with podcast comments about Indian immigrants, Muslims, “invasion not assimilation,” and Sharia law. He’s walked some of it back, but it’s lit up local chatter.
Big issues bubbling up: explosive growth, traffic nightmares, public safety, and how to keep Frisco feeling like home as the city gets more diverse.
Mark your calendars:
Early voting: April 20–28
Election Day: May 2
Forum on April 15, 6–9 p.m. at Stonebriar Country Club (5050 Country Club Dr) - good chance to see them live.
I rolled into Frisco in 2023 with zero decade-long baggage, but I’ve got a kindergartener eyeing school soon, a newborn at home, and a wife who chats with Frisco homeowners every day. This race actually matters for families like ours.
Worth paying attention, folks. Do a little homework before you vote.
🏠 Frisco’s Still Hot While Texas Cools Off… But Your Listing Doesn’t Have to Sit
Even as Texas migration slows and inventory piles up statewide, Frisco keeps drawing new neighbors, with nearly 188 people moving in for every 100 leaving. That demand is a gift… if your home actually sells fast.
Redfin’s latest numbers show the average Frisco house lingering 71 days and selling 3% below list price. The winners? They’re pending in 26 days or less, often at or above asking.
The gap isn’t the house: it’s razor-sharp pricing and an agent who truly knows your specific micro-neighborhood.
With more sellers taking price cuts right now, don’t learn the hard way.
My wife Emily connects Frisco homeowners with agents who have the proven local track record to price it right on day one and move it quickly in this shifting market. It’s completely free for sellers, zero obligation.
