When a firefighter or police officer in Frisco responds to an emergency at your kid's school, a hospital, or the Cowboys' headquarters, they can pull up a real-time indoor map of the building on their device before they even walk through the door.

It's called the SAFER system, and Facilities Dive reported this week that Frisco has now indoor-mapped over 200 buildings citywide. The program started back in 2008, when the city began creating detailed digital twins of every school in Frisco ISD so first responders would know exactly where every hallway, stairwell, and exit was in an active emergency. Since then, it's expanded to hospitals, city buildings, and major commercial properties including the Dallas Cowboys' headquarters at The Star.

What makes it unusual isn't just the mapping - it's what the system does with it. First responders get real-time access to floor plans, camera feeds, AED locations, and critical infrastructure data during emergencies. The city has also started using the same digital twin data for building management, asset tracking, and facilities planning, turning a safety tool into a citywide operations platform. For a city that markets itself as "Sports City USA," the fact that Frisco is also quietly becoming one of the most technologically mapped cities in the country feels like the more important story.

🎱 US Open Pool Championship finals are this weekend. The 49th US Open 9-ball tournament wraps up at Rollertown this Sunday. If you haven't caught any matches yet, the final rounds are the most intense.

💚 North Texas Giving Day early giving is open. The annual region-wide fundraising event is Sept. 17, but early donations started Aug. 27. 🪱 Mosquito pool #10 confirmed. The city announced yesterday that another pool tested positive for West Nile virus, this time in Frisco Avalon, Frisco Avalon North, Frisco Springs, and Meadow Hill Estates. Spray trucks are out tonight and tomorrow night, 9PM-5AM. Still no human cases in 2026.

💰 Budget hearing #2 is Tuesday night. The proposed $325.3 million budget and 3.71% tax rate increase gets its second and final public hearing at Council Chambers, 6:30PM on Sept. 1. Your last chance to speak before the final vote on Sept. 15.

🏃 Frisco Arts Walk & Run - Sept. 20.
