Howdy Frisco -
I hit the Discovery Center’s free Saturday with two of our three kids, and somehow we all survived. The science exhibits kept my 4-year-old locked in, the 2-year-old didn’t break anything, and the baby got to rest at home with Mom. In this stage of life, that absolutely counts as a parenting win.
Here's what's happening around town! ⬇️
🏗️ Kaleidoscope Park Getting $38 Million Parking Garage
City Council just approved a $38 million parking garage for Kaleidoscope Park, and I actually said "hallelujah" out loud when I saw this.
Why this matters: If you've been to Kaleidoscope Park since it opened in 2024, you know the parking situation is brutal. Emily and I took the girls there last fall on a Saturday afternoon and spent 15 minutes circling before we found a spot. We almost gave up. The park itself is incredible, one of the best new family spots in Frisco, but parking there has been a nightmare.
What they're building: A massive 1,100-space garage replacing the existing two-story structure. 100 of those spaces are reserved specifically for park visitors. The garage will also serve as the base for a planned 12-story office building with at least 100,000 square feet of office space on top.
The cost: $38 million from the city, plus $7 million from Frisco EDC (if it's done by June 2028). They're funding it through a special tax zone created back in 2020.
Bonus: Hall Group is adding even more to the park: a water feature, stage, and outdoor video screen as part of a $14 million expansion.
🎓 $2 Million in Scholarships Available for North Texas Students
Communities Foundation of Texas just opened their 2026 scholarship cycle, and there's serious money on the table for local students heading to college, trade school, or specialized training.
The details: More than $2 million available through 50+ individual scholarship funds. Students apply through one Universal Application. Deadlines are March 1, April 1, and May 1, depending on the scholarship.
Last year's impact: 415 scholarships distributed to students attending 146 schools nationwide.
How to apply: Head to cftexas.org/scholarships to review eligibility and submit applications.
As someone who's already thinking about college funds for three kids (terrifying, I know), it's good to see this kind of support for students in our area. Even if you're not applying yourself, worth sharing with anyone you know who's college-bound.
🏈 UIL Realignment Drops: Here's Where Frisco Schools Landed
The UIL just released its new district alignments for the next two school years, and Frisco ISD teams are split across three districts again.
The breakdown:
District 6-5A: Lone Star, Panther Creek, Reedy (plus Denton, Ryan, The Colony, Prosper Richland)
District 11-5A: Centennial, Emerson, Frisco, Heritage, Independence, Lebanon Trail, Liberty, Memorial
District 5-6A: Wakeland (with Denton Braswell, Guyer, Lewisville, Flower Mound schools, Little Elm)
Football gets weird: Because UIL splits 5A into Division I and II for football, there are separate football districts. Check the full breakdown if your kid plays.
Why it matters: Multiple districts mean more playoff spots for FISD athletes. With 12 high schools, this setup gives more kids a shot at postseason play.
I'm still wrapping my head around how many high schools Frisco has. But knowing my daughters could have legitimate playoff chances in whatever sport they choose? That's pretty cool.
