Howdy Frisco -

TOCA Social over at Grandscape apparently had guests kick over 210,000 soccer balls during the World Cup run. Two hundred and ten thousand.

My 4 year old alone is responsible for at least 40 of those balls landing in our neighbor's flower bed, so honestly the math checks out.

Anyway, let's get into it.

🚧 The Rail District Is Finally (Almost) Done

You already know the Rail District has felt like a permanent construction zone for what feels like my kids' entire lives. Good news: the finish line is in sight.

The Fourth Street Plaza, the last big piece of the $80 million Downtown Rail District Redevelopment, is expected to wrap by the end of August. The parking garage and road work are already done, and crews are now hanging specialty lights and building out shade structures.

A few things worth knowing:

  • The city's been running a BOGO gift card program to help local businesses survive the construction chaos. So far $500K worth of gift cards have been purchased, matched by another $500K from the Frisco Community Development Corp, and those bonus cards are good through Sept. 29 at more than 40 participating businesses.

  • Some of that grant money is going toward real upgrades, including a new back patio at Summer Moon facing the plaza, plus renovations at Elaine's Cocktail Kitchen, Frisco Bookseller, Onions & Kraut and New York Pizza Kitchen.

  • There's now a free shuttle called the Rail District Boxcar running Fri through Sun with 13 stops around the district. It's a one year pilot. Emily's already talking about hopping on it for a date night that doesn't involve circling for parking.

Once that plaza opens, I fully expect this to become our new go to spot for evening walks with the stroller.

🎓 Legacy West Is Sending Everyone Back To School

As someone who spends 40+ hours a week working out of Legacy West, I can confirm it is about to get a lot more fun to be there.

Starting July 27, Legacy West is launching Legacy West University, a month long series of pop up classes and photo ops themed around campus life. No actual homework required, which is the only kind of school I can get behind these days.

A few highlights:

  • A colorful back to school locker photo installation near Nike and Free People, with professional first day of school photo sessions July 31 to Aug 2 and Aug 7 to 9 ($10 per group). Already added this to my calendar because you know Emily will want first day of school pictures even though we're homeschooling this year.

  • Art Class for kids with local art teacher Amber Lee, plus outdoor literacy events for ages 4-10 with children's author Rebecca Clark. My oldest would live at either of these.

  • For the adults, there's a cocktail making class at Whiskey Moon and a coffee roasting class, both of which sound like a very acceptable reason to book a babysitter.

  • Weekly programming all August long, including Sunday morning run club and Saturday evening live music.

Full schedule and registration is at legacywest.com.

🍺 A Frisco Brewery Just Won National Gold

Proof positive that Frisco does more than just youth sports and cul de sacs. Flix Brewhouse Frisco brought home a gold medal at the 2026 U.S. Open Beer Championship, helping the chain set a company record with 17 total medals this year.

The Frisco location won gold in the Field Beer category for its Cumbersome Blonde, brewed on site by Head Brewer Matt Bullen, who's led the Frisco/Little Elm brewing operation since 2024.

Flix Brewhouse has been serving first run movies with scratch made food and in house beer since opening in Frisco back in 2018, and it's still the only first run cinema brewery in the world. Doesn't hurt to know the beer they're pouring during the previews is now nationally ranked.
