Howdy Frisco -

Spring didn’t “arrive” this week… it kicked the door in. Bluebonnets are out, the weather’s showing off, and suddenly everyone’s pretending they’ve always loved being outside.

We’ve got strawberry fields opening, a few low-key big city updates, and a weekend lineup that’s dangerously close to overcommitting territory.

Let’s get into it before your Saturday fills itself. ⬇️

🍓 Strawberry Picking Season Opens Today

Punjab Farms in Bonham kicks off its 2026 U-pick strawberry season today with hours from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It's about an hour northeast of us in Frisco - solidly in "worth it for a family Saturday" territory.

I've been mentally filing this under "perfect toddler activity" since I heard about it. It checks every box: outdoors, hands-on, they get to eat what they pick, and there are food trucks on site so the adults survive the drive home.

A few things to know before you go:

  • Get there early - ripe berries go fast

  • Wear comfortable shoes (and pack a change of clothes for the little ones, trust me)

  • Cash and cards accepted; pricing varies by how much you pick

  • Check punjabfarmstexas.com for updates

Spring in Texas is short. Strawberry season is shorter. This one's on our calendar.

🐾 Frisco Is Building Its Own Animal Shelter

Frisco has been quietly working toward something that's bigger than it sounds: the city's first real animal services facility.

City Council reviewed updated plans at a March 17 work session for a $12.8 million public-private animal shelter that could break ground as early as January 2028. The proposed site is at the intersection of Preston Road and PGA Parkway, land owned by the Frisco Community Development Corp.

What's actually being built:

  • Full-service veterinary clinic

  • Adoption and foster programs

  • 24-hour care dormitory

  • Pet food assistance and community education spaces

  • 20 dog enclosures, 18 cat enclosures, 5 flexible exotic animal spaces

  • About 22,500 square feet, single-story layout

Right now, Frisco Animal Services takes animals directly to the Collin County shelter in McKinney. This new facility would act as a holding location first, with animals staying a minimum of 5 days before transfer, longer if space allows. Average hold time is expected to be around 18 days.

The $12.8M upfront comes from the FCDC. The operator signs a 20-year lease and pays back roughly $7.7M through rent. Several private partners are expected to be involved, including Nicole Kohanski of Wiggle Butt Academy (yes, that's the real name, and yes, it's great).

The catch: A few council members voted against the letter of intent back in November over fiscal concerns and a lack of data on actual animal needs in the city. That tension hasn't fully resolved, and the city's relationship with the Collin County shelter still needs to be worked out before anything moves forward officially.

Council revisits the construction budget and final partnership terms in about a month.

🚌 Frisco Is Getting On-Demand Rides

This one flew under the radar, but it's worth knowing about.

Frisco is pushing forward on a $15 million microtransit partnership with the Denton County Transportation Authority. If approved, the service could launch as early as mid-May, right before the 2026 FIFA World Cup comes to North Texas.

Here's how it works: you request a ride through an app or phone call, a shared vehicle picks you up curb-to-curb, and you pay $3 to $5 per trip based on distance. No fixed routes. Operating hours are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a fleet of about 20 vehicles, covering roughly 21 square miles of Frisco (about 75% of local jobs, 38% of residents). It also connects to the DART system through the Northwest Plano Park and Ride.

The $15M total breaks down to about $3.3M from Frisco, with the rest coming from federal funding. Year one is already secured. Years two and three are still being worked out.

Also worth noting: The City of Frisco announced this week that the Dallas Parkway widening is nearly complete through most of Frisco, with new turn lanes added throughout. Something felt different on my commute this week and I thought I was imagining it. I was not.

Real Estate Reality

🏡 135 Frisco homes sold in February - Frisco homes are selling a bit faster this year, averaging 71 days on market versus 77 last year. So while the market isn’t flying, the right strategy still matters, and so does the agent you choose.
