Howdy Frisco -
Apparently a bunch of NFL players spent Thursday in Frisco learning about cash flow and operating companies instead of cover-2 defenses. Jaylon Smith said he's already got four businesses paying him.
Meanwhile I'm still trying to figure out how to get my toddler to stop negotiating bedtime like she's got equity in the house. We're not all winning the same game out here.
Anyway, three things worth your Saturday coffee.
π Frisco's World Cup moment is officially here
The Round of 32 kicks off this weekend (June 28), and Frisco has been hosting Sweden's national team at Toyota Stadium as their official Team Base Camp all summer. We're one of 48 camps across North America, and Frisco EDC's Gloria Salinas basically confirmed what longtime residents already knew: this isn't a one-summer flex.
She pointed to more than three decades of intentional growth, a diversified corporate base spanning finance and technology, and infrastructure built specifically to handle moments like this. Translation: all those Legacy West office towers I drive past every morning weren't just for show.
The part that actually matters for us as parents: Salinas name-dropped top-ranked schools, safe neighborhoods, and the city's dining, shopping, and entertainment scene including the Rail District, PGA District, The Star, and Universal Kids Resort as the quality-of-life stuff that makes international visitors want to stick around.
And don't sleep on this line: Frisco's already locked in hosting the Men's 2027 PGA Championship at Fields Ranch East. Sports City USA isn't slowing down anytime soon.
π ΏοΈ The Rail District parking garage is open (finally)
If you've driven downtown in the last two years, you know the chaos. Good news: the new five-level parking garage at the northeast corner of Elm and Third is officially open, with 450 free parking spaces.
This is part of the bigger $80 million-plus downtown redevelopment that included rebuilding Main Street and Elm Street and the Fourth Street Plaza, which is on track for an August finish. Main Street itself just fully wrapped up this month after starting construction back in July 2024.
I've driven past this site basically every day for two years wondering when it would stop looking like a war zone. Free parking and six retail spaces on the ground level means Emily and I finally have a real excuse to do a date night down there once the Plaza opens in August. Toddlers stay home, parents get tacos. Everybody wins.
π¦ Heads up: mosquito spraying tonight and Sunday
Less fun news. Frisco confirmed its third West Nile-positive mosquito pool of 2026, which triggered overnight ground spraying near Warren Sports Complex this Saturday and Sunday night, 9pm to 5am both nights.
Affected areas include Frisco Avalon, Frisco Avalon North, Frisco Springs, and Meadow Hill Estates. No human cases reported in the city, which is good, but if you're in one of those neighborhoods it's worth checking the city's map before letting the dog out for a 2am bathroom break.
For the rest of us, this is just a good reminder heading into peak summer evenings at the park: long sleeves at dusk, bug spray, and dump out anything in your yard holding standing water. My toddlers' kiddie pool has been Public Enemy Number One in our backyard ever since I started reading about this stuff.
