Howdy Frisco -

You know it’s a good week in Frisco when even the local college is launching programs that sound way more practical than half the stuff I studied back in the day.

Collin College is rolling out three new associate degrees this fall: Medical Laboratory Technology, Law Enforcement with a public administration and supervision twist, and Cosmetology - all with hands-on training aimed straight at jobs that actually exist around here.

Anyway, let's get into it. ⬇️

🌭 Portillo’s Opens in Frisco April 21: Chicago-Style Deliciousness Incoming

Tuesday, April 21 is the big day. Portillo’s first Frisco spot at 16499 FM 423 opens to the public at 10:30 a.m. (ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. with a donation to the Frisco Education Foundation).

What to expect:

  • Chicago-style hot dogs

  • Italian beef sandwiches

  • Char-grilled burgers

  • Legendary chocolate cake

It’s their “Restaurant of the Future” setup: smaller footprint, double drive-thru, outdoor patio, and grab-and-go. Construction cost: around $6 million.

I’m ready for that Italian beef. Welcome to the neighborhood!

🚐 Frisco Launches $15M GoZone Microtransit: On-Demand Rides Coming Soon

City Council approved a new partnership with Denton County Transportation Authority for GoZone, an app-based microtransit service expected to launch as early as mid-May (smart timing ahead of FIFA World Cup activity at Toyota Stadium).

Key details:

  • Covers ~21 square miles in Frisco

  • On-demand shared rides via app or phone

  • Fares roughly $3–$5 based on distance

  • Runs 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. with about 20 vehicles

  • Connects to DART at Northwest Plano Park and Ride

Frisco chips in about $3.31M over three years (mostly federal funding). This sits alongside the existing demand-response service for seniors and residents with disabilities.

As someone who commutes daily, I like seeing practical mobility options added without turning our suburban streets into gridlock. Our minivan is still the family workhorse, but this could be handy for quick trips.

🎓 Texas Education Freedom Accounts Explode in Popularity: Over 274,000 Families Applied!

More than 274,000 Texans threw their hats in the ring for the new Education Freedom Accounts (ESA) program. That’s a ton of parents saying they want more choices for their kids.

The $1 billion program is off to a rocket start, but demand is so high that funding will likely run out after prioritizing students with disabilities, their siblings, and low-income families. Most folks will land on a waitlist for now, with notifications rolling out this month and funding starting in July.

It’s giving families real options: up to $10,474 for private school expenses, up to $2,000+ for homeschooling resources, or even more for kids with disabilities who have an IEP.

Year one is always a scramble, but that massive demand is exactly the kind of “positive energy” that could push lawmakers to expand it down the road. More choices for Texas families? I’ll cheer for that any day.

⚡ Other quick hits keeping Frisco solid:

🎵 Frisco ISD Choirs Earn Sweepstakes: Forty-five secondary ensembles brought home Superior ratings in both concert and sight-reading at UIL.

🏒 Frisco ISD + Elite Hockey Academy Partnership: New virtual/hybrid learning options through Frisco Flex let serious student-athletes train hard while staying on track academically.

🏊 Frisco Water Park Splash Pass Deal: Through April 30, grab a family-of-four Splash Pass + season cooler for just $150 (normally $260) at the Frisco Athletic Center. Waterslides, lazy river, and splash zones are calling our crew’s name this summer.

🏠 Frisco Housing Market Update: More Breathing Room for Sellers This Spring

Frisco’s market has cooled just enough to feel more balanced: homes are now averaging 42 to 58 days on the market, with the median sale price landing around $620K–$710K. We’re seeing more inventory, a few more price adjustments, and buyers who actually have time to compare options instead of panic-bidding.

The sneaky truth? One neighborhood’s hot streak is another’s slow burn. What flies in Starwood or Newman Village might sit longer in a newer pocket across town because the buyer pools are totally different.

That’s why Emily quietly connects Frisco families with hyper-local agents who actually know your specific corner of the city: the ones with the recent comps, the right buyer network, and the track record to price it right the first time instead of chasing the market for weeks.

It’s free for sellers, no pressure, and usually just a quick 15-minute conversation.

👉 Ready to sell smarter instead of stressing through extra weeks of toy-tidying and last-minute showings? Let Emily match you with the right local pro first.
