Howdy Frisco -

There’s a new sheriff in town - I’m Sebastian, the new publisher of this lovely newsletter called Howdy Frisco.

You might know me from the biweekly newsletter in our cozy sister suburb, What’s On McKinney (subscribe if you haven’t yet!).

I promise I won’t change too much about Howdy Frisco. I love how it’s already a good vibes publication in that it doesn’t waste time on politics or crime. I might throw in a little history once a week, or recommend a park to visit.

And I will open up the opportunity for local businesses to get featured, because buy local = support local! Not in a spammy way though - just wholesome. You can just reply to this email if you feel your biz should get a spotlight.

Anyway, onto the actual news.

🏈 The Cowboys Are Practicing at The Star - and It's Free

After weeks out in Oxnard, California, the Dallas Cowboys are headed back to Frisco to host two free public training camp practices at Ford Center, Tuesday, Aug. 25 and Wednesday, Aug. 26. Tostitos Championship Plaza opens to fans at 4 p.m. both days, Ford Center opens at 4:30 p.m., and there's an opening ceremony at 5:30 p.m. - plus a drone show and "Cowboys Night" programming.

Mark the calendar now, because parking around The Star gets ugly fast when this many people show up for free football. More details to come as we get closer, but consider this your heads up.

Rebel Scum Con returns to the Frisco Convention Center Aug. 7-9, and the guest list already includes Ray Park (yes, Darth Maul himself) and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee from The Mandalorian. Third year running, and it keeps getting bigger. Not this week's events, but close enough that you'll want to start planning your lightsaber cosplay now.

⚡ Quick Hits Around Town

🏆 Frisco ISD is showing off. Two Frisco ISD high schools landed in the top 10 of the UIL Lone Star Cup, the statewide ranking that covers academics, athletics, and fine arts all in one list. Good year to be a Frisco parent bragging at pickup.

🦟 Mosquito watch continues. The city confirmed its fifth positive West Nile Virus mosquito pool of the year this week. No human cases reported in Frisco so far - just the usual "wear, apply, remove" reminder before your next evening walk.

🚧 Roadworks Report

Anthem Drive at King Road is still closed and will be for a couple more months - a July update pushed the timeline back after crews hit unexpected underground utility conflicts. Frisco Lakes residents are being routed out via West Stonebrook Parkway in the meantime. The city flags the usual round of pavement patch jobs around town, each expected to wrap within about two weeks, weather permitting.
