Howdy Frisco -

Frisco's own Kim Paez tees off at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship in Minnesota this week, the only golfer representing the entire North Texas PGA Section.

She's been here just over a year (basically my neighbor in "recent Frisco transplant" years) and is already teeing it up against Nelly Korda for a $13 million purse.

Meanwhile I'm still trying to convince my 4 year old that mini golf counts as "real golf." We are not the same.

⚾ The Reigning National Champs Are Coming To Riders Field

Oklahoma just won the College World Series, and apparently their victory lap includes a stop in our backyard. The Sooners headline the 2027 Frisco College Baseball Classic on March 5-7, joined by Kansas, Southern Miss and UC Irvine.

I drive past Riders Field constantly and somehow forget how big a deal this venue has become for college baseball. Four teams, round robin, two games a day. It's nine months out, but pre-sale sign-ups are already open if you want first crack at tickets before they disappear. My oldest is finally at the age where she'll sit through an inning or two before demanding the playground behind the outfield, so this is officially on our radar.

🎢 The World's Tallest, Fastest Dive Coaster Opens This Friday

Tormenta Rampaging Run opens June 26 at Six Flags Over Texas, and it's already claiming six world records, including tallest and fastest dive coaster on the planet. We're talking 309 feet up, an 87 mph drop steeper than straight vertical, all wrapped inside a new Spain themed area with a restaurant called Cocina Abuela.

I will be admiring this one from a safe distance, ideally with a churro in hand and zero intention of getting on it.

💰 Frisco ISD Just Approved Raises (And Kept The Budget Balanced)

Frisco ISD trustees approved a 2% raise for staff and balanced the budget for the second year running, even as enrollment keeps sliding from its 2022-23 peak. The tax rate is holding steady at $1.0194, but since home values keep climbing, most of us will still see our bills creep up anyway. Classic.

The district leaned on new revenue instead of cutting programs, including the Access Frisco transfer program, which alone brought in 870 students and $8.4 million. I'm glad to see them get creative instead of just trimming things.

🐧 Dallas Zoo Is Dropping $26 Million On Penguins And Flamingos

The Dallas Zoo is breaking ground this fall on African Shorelines, a new $26 million exhibit bringing expanded penguin habitats and a free flight flamingo area to the Wilds of Africa section. It's the opening phase of a much bigger $90 million "Safari Trails" overhaul that runs through 2030, eventually adding a half mile safari trail and, I am not making this up, a shared rhino and cheetah habitat.

It's not technically a Frisco story, but the Dallas Zoo is close enough that it's basically our zoo too. My girls already think the flamingos are the main event, so this is great news in our house.
