Howdy Frisco -

Trader Joe's is coming back. After P&Z approved it unanimously and Council tabled it in August, the project returns to City Council next month for a final vote. Also: new water/sewer rates kick in Thursday, Oktoberfest is this Saturday, there's a Floating Sound Bath on the HALL Park Hotel rooftop pool Wednesday, and the Frisco Community Parade returns to Main Street Nov 14.

The Trader Joe's saga continues, and it's heading back to Frisco City Council in October for what could be the final vote.

Here's the recap: Frisco's first Trader Joe's has been proposed for a nearly 10-acre mixed-use development at the southwest corner of Main Street and Majestic Gardens Drive. The plan includes a 12,500-square-foot Trader Joe's and a 158-unit senior living facility on the same site. The senior living component can't open until Trader Joe's does.

City staff originally recommended denial over zoning, traffic, walkability, and design concerns. But in July, the Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously overruled staff and approved the rezoning - Commissioner Sean Merrell noted that local demand for a Trader Joe's "dates back many years." Residents spoke in favor at both the P&Z and Council meetings.

Then in August, City Council unanimously tabled the project, saying they wanted more time to review it. No specific concerns were made public, but the project was sent back for further discussion.

It returns to Council in October. Right now, Frisco residents have to drive to Plano or McKinney to shop at Trader Joe's. That could change next month.

💧 New water/sewer rates take effect Thursday, Oct. 1. Water up 9%, sewer up 5% ($9.99/month more on average), stormwater up 10% ($0.73/month). The city is providing a sewer subsidy to offset part of the increase.
