Howdy Frisco -

Two mosquito pools in Frisco just tested positive for West Nile virus. The city is spraying tonight and tomorrow night. Also this week: Council added $378K for the Iron Horse Trail, plans for Frisco's first animal shelter are taking shape, and Trick or Treat the Square is next Saturday.

The City of Frisco confirmed Friday that two mosquito pools have tested positive for West Nile virus this week. In response, the city's contractor will spray overnight tonight (Saturday Oct 17) and tomorrow night (Sunday Oct 18).

There are no confirmed human cases in Frisco in 2026. But the positive pools mean the virus is actively circulating in the mosquito population, and the city is acting fast.

What to do:

🪱 Drain standing water around your home (flower pots, gutters, bird baths, pet bowls, tires)
👕 Dress in long sleeves and pants at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active
🧴 Defend with EPA-approved mosquito repellent containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus

If you're outdoors tonight or tomorrow night, be aware that spray trucks will be operating in affected areas overnight.

🚴 Council added $378K for the Iron Horse Trail. The Oct 6 vote approved a contract amendment with Freese & Nichols for additional design and environmental work on the planned hike and bike trail. Total engineering contract is now approximately $1.46 million.

🐾 Frisco is getting its own animal shelter. Council agreed at the Oct 6 work session to pursue an 18,101-square-foot facility with limited partnerships with nearby cities. Frisco currently uses the Collin County animal shelter to house animals. Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Angelia Pelham said the plan aligns with Council's original vision.
