Howdy Frisco -

A kitten named Squid was born with hind-leg deformities. The vets at Atlas Pet Vets in Frisco tried every splint and brace on the market. Nothing worked… he was just too small.

So they built him one out of LEGOs. It worked. He learned to walk. He eventually didn't need it at all. I showed my 4-year-old a photo and she has not stopped talking about Squid for three days.

Anyway. happy Thursday, Frisco. Here's what's going on. ⬇️

🏟️ Toyota Stadium Is Getting a $182 Million Glow-Up and It's Bigger Than FC Dallas

If you've driven past Toyota Stadium lately, you've seen the construction. Hard to miss.

Here's what's actually happening.

The project: $182 million renovation, funded through a public-private partnership between the city, Frisco EDC, Frisco CDC, Frisco ISD, and the Hunt family (FC Dallas owners).

East side wraps up this summer. West side follows. Full project done by early 2028.

What's being built:

  • 3,400+ new seats

  • New luxury suites and club spaces

  • Canopy shade structures (mercy from the Texas sun)

  • New food, restrooms, retail, and entrances

  • Upgraded broadcast tech and LED lighting

FC Dallas COO Jimmy Smith's take: "This will be the best soccer-specific stadium, potentially in the world of this size."

Bold. But hard to argue with the scope.

Not just an FC Dallas thing:

Frisco ISD uses Toyota Stadium more than any other entity. The renovation was designed with student-athletes in mind, and games are running through construction the whole time.

The real goal: 2031 Women's World Cup

This renovation wasn't built for 2026. It was built for 2031.

The U.S. is in contention to host the Women's World Cup alongside Costa Rica and Jamaica. If the U.S. wins the bid, Toyota Stadium has already submitted to host — potentially group stage through quarterfinals.

This summer is a preview: Sweden's national team will use Toyota as their base camp for 2026 World Cup practice. Frisco on the world stage, one step at a time.

💦 Splash Pad Season Is Basically Here. Here's Where to Take Your Kids…

North Texas heat doesn't ease into it. One week it's hoodie weather, the next week you're questioning your life choices in a parking lot. Splash pads are the answer, and we've got several right in Frisco.

Here's the cheat sheet:

  • Kaleidoscope Park Splash Pad (6635 Warren Pkwy) - Frisco's newest park, and it opens automatically whenever the temp hits 60 degrees or higher. 9am to 10pm. This one is already open, which, given this week's weather, is very relevant information.

  • Frisco Commons Spray Park (8000 McKinney Rd) - The classic. Opens May 15. Part of the 63-acre Commons Park with trails, playgrounds, a fishing pond, and pavilions. This is the one you've probably already been to.

  • J.R. Newman Spray Park (8211 Twin Falls Dr, Frisco) - Opens May 15. Smaller, less crowded, and has a farmyard-themed playground next door. The sensor to activate the water is on the blue pillar on the south side. You're welcome (that took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out on a hot Saturday).

If you're willing to venture out of Frisco, Celebration Park in Allen (opens May 1) has one of the largest handicap-accessible playgrounds in Texas. And the Nancy Best Fountain at Klyde Warren Park in Dallas opens when it hits 55 degrees and runs until 10pm… beautiful at night.

🏫 Frisco ISD Has a New Superintendent. Here's What He's Saying…

Frisco ISD has a new superintendent. Todd Fouche stepped in this April after 10 years in the district, most recently as deputy superintendent. He replaced Mike Waldrip, who held the role since 2017.

Community Impact sat down with him. A few things stuck with me.

On enrollment: Declining enrollment is the district's biggest financial challenge. Texas schools are funded based on attendance, so fewer kids = fewer dollars. Fouche joked that he's "the problem"; his own home used to send two kids to FISD, then one, now none. It landed as a joke. It's also a real issue.

On safety: FISD now has school marshals at every elementary school. They set a goal of 50% this year and hit 100%. Secondary schools have always had resource officers — this closes the gap for the younger grades.

They also run something called the SAFER Program: Frisco Police and Fire have live access to school cameras so they can see exactly what's happening inside before they ever step foot in the building.

On success: He talks a lot about the "whole child." Test scores are one data point. Confidence is the X factor. I liked that framing.

🏠 Your Buyer Is Quietly Doing Math You Might Not Expect

Texas is now the 4th most expensive state for home insurance in the country. The average premium hit $3,291 in 2024... up over 40% in two years.

Your buyer knows this. They're stacking mortgage, taxes, HOA, and now an insurance bill that's crept into "ouch" territory. That changes how they react to your list price.

The sellers winning right now are priced for the full picture... not just the square footage.
