Good morning, Frisco!

Happy New Year! Hope you survived the holiday chaos and are easing back into the work week with grace (or at least with coffee).

Let's dive in.

🚔 Frisco PD Goes Full James Bond with New "Grappler" Tech

Frisco Police just equipped patrol cars with something called "the grappler," and it's exactly as cool as it sounds.

Picture this: a fleeing car. A cop car. A net shoots out and wraps around the bad guy's rear wheel like a spider catching dinner. Chase over. No explosions. No crashes into innocent minivans.

How it works: Net deploys from the police bumper, snags the wheel, stops the car. Officer reloads in minutes and can use it again if the suspect's feeling ambitious.

Dallas PD, LAPD, and Las Vegas already use it. It's stopped kidnappings and sketchy border crossings.

Why you care: Your morning commute just got safer. High-speed chases through our neighborhoods? Yeah, those are way less likely now.

Finally, tax dollars buying something actually cool.

🏀 Wakeland Basketball Is on Fire

While you were dealing with holiday in-laws, Wakeland's basketball teams were out here collecting wins like they're going out of style.

Girls team: 18-2 overall, ranked #7 in Texas, riding a 6-game win streak. Undefeated in district.

Led by junior captains Charlotte Cavin and Kaylei Thornton. Only 3 seniors on the roster. This team's got a future.

Boys team: Beat Newman Smith by 1 point (62-61), then took down Jesuit in overtime (77-72).

Also hot: Reedy won on a last-second shot from JonMichael Starr. The Colony's Xavier Green hit a buzzer-beater against Lewisville.

Bottom line: If you're looking for Friday night entertainment that doesn't involve scrolling TikTok, District 12-5A basketball is delivering drama.

🏘️ Prosper's Growth Pains Look Familiar

"It's a completely different town."

That's Elizabeth Ross, who moved to Prosper in 2010 when Preston Road was still two lanes and people literally rode horses down the street.

Now? She's selling her house and getting out.

The drama: Prosper officials are fighting over apartments. They've got a soft cap of 7,000 multifamily units and they're basically at it.

Residents are like: "Stop building! You're ruining our small-town vibe!"

Developers are like: "You want nice restaurants? You need people. That's how this works."

Mayor David Bristol says developers better bring something "special and unique" if they want to build past the cap.

Why Frisco folks should care: This was us in 2010. We had the exact same arguments. The exact same tension between growth and nostalgia.

One Prosper official nailed it: "So many people are moving north, and they've got to go somewhere."

Watching Prosper wrestle with this feels like looking at our old yearbook photos. Awkward, but kinda fascinating.
