The world's best pool players are descending on downtown Frisco this week for a tournament that's been running since 1976, and the opening ceremony is free at Rollertown on Monday. Also: Musume opens at The Star, Cowboys training camp is Tuesday, and two more mosquito pools just tested positive.

If you're new to Frisco, here's one more reason the city keeps punching above its weight in the sports world: the 49th US Open Pool Championship is being held right here in downtown Frisco starting this week, and the opening ceremony is at Rollertown Beerworks on Monday.

The US Open is the most prestigious 9-ball tournament in America - think of it as the Wimbledon of pool. It's been running since 1976, and this year over 256 of the world's best players will compete across a full week of matches. The opening ceremony on Monday (1:30-3:30PM) is your chance to meet the players, grab complimentary food and a beer, and see what a world-class billiards event looks like before the competition starts. Tickets are limited, 18+.

For the city known as Sports City USA, that already hosts the PGA, the Cowboys, FC Dallas, and the NCAA, hosting a major international billiards championship feels very on-brand.

🪱 Two more mosquito pools tested positive. The city confirmed on Aug. 21 that mosquito count is now at nine for the year. Spray trucks are rolling through affected neighborhoods Saturday and Sunday night, 9PM-5AM. Still no human cases reported in 2026.

💰 Budget hearing #2 is Sept. 1. The proposed $325.3 million budget and 3.71% tax rate increase - Frisco's first since 2017, adding roughly $9/month for the average homeowner - gets its second public hearing at Council Chambers. Final vote Sept. 15.

🏈 Cowboys Training Camp is Tuesday. Free public practices at Ford Center at The Star, Aug. 25-26. Tostitos Championship Plaza opens 4PM, Ford Center 4:30PM, opening ceremony at 5:30PM Tuesday with Jerry Jones, the Cheerleaders, and a post-practice drone show. Free admission and parking, first-come first-served.

🐾 Paws in the Pool - Sept. 12. Once the Frisco Water Park closes to humans for the summer, they open it up for dogs. Three swim sessions by size (small/medium under 35 lbs, then two large dog sessions), with a social media photo contest in categories like "Best Doggy Paddle" and "Best Doggone Summer Style."
