Howdy Frisco -

Your property taxes are going up, but that's not the only bill increasing. Buried in the same budget: a 9% water rate hike and a 5% sewer increase that together add almost $10 more per month. Also: a new swim school opens, the US Open Pool Championship just crowned a winner, and there's comedy at Bottled in Bond tomorrow.

Here's your week ahead.

πŸ’§ Your Water Bill Is Going Up Too

If you've been following the property tax increase story (first hike in nine years, roughly $9/month for the average homeowner), here's the part that got less attention: the same proposed budget also includes a 9% water rate increase and a 5% sewer rate increase, adding about $9.99 per month to the average residential bill.

On top of that, stormwater rates are going up 10% (another $0.73/month), and commercial environmental service rates are increasing 5%. City Manager Wes Pierson has attributed the increases to rising operational costs that the city can no longer absorb without adjustment.

Put it all together and the total monthly impact for an average Frisco homeowner is roughly $19 more: $9 from the tax rate, $10 from water and sewer. That's the real number. The budget also funds 62 new city positions and $5.4 million in merit raises and step increases for police and fire employees. The second public hearing happened last night (Sept. 1). The final vote is Sept. 15 at Council Chambers.
